Ballet & Tap
This class is for the little one who is always dancing and the parent looking to introduce socialization! We keep your kiddo moving throughout class learning the basics of ballet and introducing the fun of tap shoes! Parents or caregivers accompany your child to give them extra support and inspiration along with your teacher! Dancers learn how to be in a structured class while having fun and gaining coordination.
Ballet & Pop
Instead of tap, they will be learning the basics of ballet and feeling the beat of Pop! Ballet & Pop is encouraged for the child who has sound sensitivities as the tap shoes can be noisy.
Requirements: Ballet Slippers and Tap Shoes (Ballet & Tap only) with any color leotard or dance dress. Tights, skirts and tutus optional!
Ballet & Tap or Ballet & Pop*
This class is for the little one who is always dancing and the parent looking to expose their little one to tons of music! Get ready for Miss Sophie’s famous playlists! We keep them moving throughout class learning the basics of ballet and tap or pop. Dancers learn how to be in a structured class on their own while having fun and gaining coordination. Ballet & Pop is encouraged for the child who has sound sensitivities as the tap shoes can be noisy.

*Please note: All age 2-3 classes are transition classes. ONE parent or guardian is allowed to sit inside the dance studio at the start of the year for moral support, but we always encourage the adults to transition out of the room by Thanksgiving time. If your little one needs a little extra time with you in the room, that's fine, but our goal is definitely to get all adults out of the room before the recital so your dancer can feel confident on the stage by themselves!
Ballet & Tap
This combo class is designed to introduce Ballet and Tap to the beginner dancer. Students spend 3⁄4 of class in ballet shoes for stretching, warm up and ballet instructions and 1⁄4 in tap shoes. Students learn pre-ballet skills, coordination, body positions, ballet terminology, and the beginning basics of tap.

Ballet & Jazz
This class continues to build skills and advance students that have taken either Ballet & Tap or Ballet & Pop. Jazz builds on basic ballet training and incorporates the whole body with sharp and fluid movements to create a visually technical dance style. Students also train in transition steps, start to learn across the floor and there is a large focus on creative movement as well as routine choreography.
Requirements: Ballet Slippers or Jazz Shoes with any color leotard, dance dress, tight fitted tank top, leggings or dance shorts. *Hair must be pulled back and out of the face
Tumble & Hip Hop
In this class we introduce basic foundations of hip hop including popping, locking, breaking, old school and new school foundations. Tumble is fun and energetic designed to help children build strength, flexibility, coordination, and confidence in a safe environment. Through age-appropriate instruction, students learn fundamental tumbling skills such as rolls, cartwheels, handstands, bridges, and beginner acrobatic techniques. Tumbling helps focus on developing body awareness, balance, and motor skills while encouraging teamwork, discipline, and a love for movement. Whether your child is new to tumbling or looking to improve their skills, our experienced instructors make every class engaging, positive, and rewarding.
Requirements: Tight fitted leotard, unitard, or bralette and dance shorts with sneakers or bare feet. No dresses or T-Shirts that can fall over the head when tumbling. *Hair must be pulled back and out of the face
We offer Beginning Levels for ages 5-7 in a variety of the styles listed below and these classes are the first step in a dancer focusing on a single technique for a full hour class.
In this class we introduce the basic foundations of Tap, a fun, fast-paced style of dance that teaches rhythm, counting and coordination. Dancers wear tap shoes and will learn basic tap steps and how to strike the floor to create intricate sounds and percussive beats. Jazz builds on basic ballet training and incorporates the whole body with sharp, fluid movements to create a visually technical dance style. We focus on memory, performance qualities, and stage presence as we learn choreography in this class.

Acro I blends gymnastics and dance while helping students build strength, flexibility, balance, and confidence. Dancers will learn and practice skills such as forward and backward rolls, splits, handstands, cartwheels, backbends, and more through age-appropriate progressions. Whether you're new to acro or already have experience, skills can be adapted to challenge each dancer at their individual level.
Requirements: Dancers should wear form-fitting clothing for this class, no loose clothing. No shoes or socks. *Hair must be pulled back and out of the face
Dancers will begin to learn all the fundamentals of ballet including the ballet positions, and spend more time at the ballet barre focusing on proper technique. Dancers will be introduced to terminology and identifying the different steps. They will learn what the beginning, middle, and end of a traditional ballet class entails, from roll call to curtsies and bows.

Lyrical Ballet is a beautiful blend of ballet and expressive movement that allows dancers to tell a story through music. In this class, dancers will continue to build strong technical ballet foundations while exploring more emotional range, musicality and fluidity of movement. Dancers will learn to connect steps seamlessly, further develop their artistry, and express themselves with confidence in our supportive and uplifting environment. Our lyrical classes are tailored to each age group while emphasizing performance quality.

Pom (also known as Cheer) is a high-energy dance style that combines sharp, precise movements with fun pop style choreography and spirited performance. In this class dancers will use pom poms while learning basic jazz. technique and clean, synchronized movement. Dancers in Pom build coordination, strength, and confidence while developing their performance skills and team spirit in an upbeat and encouraging environment. Our Pom classes include not only the best elements of cheerleading and jazz technique but also beginner level tumbling and stunts.
Requirements: Any dance apparel and sneakers. Pom-Poms will be provided for each student enrolled to use during class. Pom-Poms can also be purchased at the studio for $20 for students who would like to use their own set. *Hair must be pulled back and out of the face
This class combines the fun energy of hip hop with the strength of technique and floor work. Dancers will focus on a variety of things from body isolations and locking, to coffee grinders and tumbling. There is some freedom to work on creative movement at this age, though there is also a large focus on learning choreography.
Requirements: Sneakers (should be for dance class only and not worn on the street), black sweatpants or leggings/shorts are encouraged with tank tops or t-shirts, but any comfy pants will do!
Classes for ages 7+ are for dancers who are getting more serious about their dancing and want to level up their training. Classes are divided into Levels I - V and dancers are recommended a specific level based more on their ability/experience with the intention of developing them as a dancer through our program.
Jazz is a high-energy, dynamic session that combines ballet foundation with rhythmic, stylized movement. Jazz includes conditioning exercises, deep stretches to lengthen muscles and improve flexibility, isolations, across-the-floor work (including jazz walks, kicks, leaps, and turns), and fun, fast-paced choreography. It focuses on building a dancer's strength, flexibility, and stage presence.

Contemporary dance is popular among our older students, tween and teens because it encourages dancers to be versatile in their self expressions. Contemporary is more fluid than ballet and includes tricks and creative turns and leaps and sometimes sharp and experimental movement. These classes use body weight, floor work, technique, efficiency of muscle usage, musicality and safe body alignment. A contemporary dance class is a wonderful place to learn self awareness and emotional expression.
Lyrical is a beautiful blend of ballet and expressive movement that allows dancers to tell a story through music. In this class, dancers will continue to build strong technical ballet foundations while exploring more emotional range, musicality and fluidity of movement. What is the difference between contemporary and Lyrical?
Lyrical dance focuses on flowing movement and storytelling set to emotional music with an emphasis on grace, control and connection to the lyrics of the music. Contemporary dance is typically more abstract and versatile and includes experimental movement blending ballet and jazz styles.

Hip Hop is a high-energy, dynamic street dance. In this class, dancers will learn the core fundamentals of hip-hop dance with an emphasis on musicality, precision & timing. Under the hip-hop dance umbrella, this class focuses on footwork, grooves, locking, popping, house & breakdancing—teaching dancers not only the movement of this era, but a love & appreciation for the origins of hip-hop roots & it’s culture. This class encourages technique, style & expression to help bring forth strong, confident dancers. Memory, performance qualities and stage presence are a focus in this class.

Tap is an energetic, rhythmic style of dancer where dancers transform their feet into percussive instruments. Using shoes fitted with metal plates, students learned to strike the floor to create intricate sounds and syncopated beats. Tap classes build foundational coordination, musicality, precision, and agility.

Acro blends classical dance techniques with precise acrobatic elements. Through tumbling and contortion training, students develop strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and muscle control. Skills taught are based on age and ability. Dancers must master certain skills to advance to the next level.

This focused training class is designed for dancers looking to strengthen and refine their overall technique. Recommended for dancers with current or prior experience in ballet, jazz and or contemporary, this class will break down and build key skills including turns, leaps, extensions and control. Dancers will work on proper alignment, strength, flexibility and execution while learning drills and progressions to improve consistency and confidence. This is a great class for dancers who want to level up their technique, enhance performance quality and safely develop more advanced skills including leaps and turns..

Ballet is a highly formalized style of dance that focuses on body alignment, abdominal control, proper placement, strength and flexibility. This class includes a lot of repetition and development of muscle memory to solidify the dancer's foundational technique. This class includes work at the ballet barre, center floor skills in combinations and moving across the floor with turns and leaps. Students will deepen their understanding of ballet technique, discipline, class structure, and terminology. Ballet is strongly encouraged for any dancer looking to truly progress in their dance training.

Pre-Pointe is intended to introduce the strength and alignment necessary for future pointe work. This foundational class is a crucial step in a dancer's progression and must be completed before advancing to full pointe shoes. This invite-only class is taken in addition to Ballet III or above. Dancers will participate in work at the ballet barre, practice center floor skills in combinations, and develop their technique moving across the floor. They will work on building the strength and understanding needed to progress towards pointe shoes.
Requirements: Must have 2 or more years of Ballet and attend a Ballet III class or above concurrently. Ballet slippers, leotard, and tights (skirt optional), or for boys: black dance tights (not sheer) and white dancewear short sleeve. *Hair must be pulled into a ballet bun
Pointe is an advanced Ballet class where dancers perform entirely on the tips of their toes using specially reinforced pointe shoes. It focuses on building ankle strength, refining balance, and mastering classical Ballet technique while supporting the full body weight on the toes. Dancers must have years of foundational Ballet training, sufficient ankle strength, completes Pre-Pointe, and have instructor approval to ensure their bones and musicles are ready. Apon approval of a Pointe class, dancers will need to make an appointment for a pointe shoe fitting at a dance store.
Requirements: Pointe shoes, leotard, and tights (skirt optional), or for boys: black dance tights (not sheer) and white dancewear short sleeve. *Hair must be pulled into a ballet bun
In this class, students will learn the foundations of flight while safely using aerial apparatus to build body awareness, strength, and flexibility. The focus is on building foundational skills at a lower height and conditioning through ground work and climbing. Students will learn to climb, basic wraps, knots, and locks. A variety of apparatus will be used in class such as Silks, Hammock, and Lyra.
Requirements: To prevent fabric burns and tangles, students must wear tight fitted clothing around the legs and torso, preferably leggings and a bodysuit. No shorts or crop tops. *Hair must be pulled back and out of the face and NO JEWELRY
In this class, students will build on the foundations of aerial, introducing dynamic skills, such as spinning and continue to grow strength and flexibility. Class focuses on conditioning, climbing, and skill development off the ground. Students will learn inversions, aerial footlocks, and spins. A variety of apparatus will be used in class such as Silks, Hammock, and Lyra.
Requirements: To prevent fabric burns and tangles, students must wear tight fitted clothing around the legs and torso, preferably leggings and a bodysuit. No shorts or crop tops. *Hair must be pulled back and out of the face and NO JEWELRY
In this class, students will develop a deeper understanding of aerial skills and build endurance through higher level sequencing and dynamic drops. This class is focused on moving skills up on the apparatus and staying in the air longer. Class focuses on conditioning and sequencing to build endurance. Students will learn controlled drops, splits, and complex sequences. A variety of apparatus will be used in class such as Silks, Hammock, and Lyra.

This is an invite only class for dancers who have danced with Sophie Dance for a minimum of 1 year and show they are ready to take dance to the next level. Dancers must exhibit the desire and love to dance by actively participating in class and striving to do their best. Dancers must have good attendance, show proper technique in class, and love to perform in front of large audiences, as this is a performance based class. These evaluations are made by teachers during the main season classes and/or camps. This class also requires additional costs like Performance Team swag, additional costumes, Clippers tickets, and weekend or weeknight performances.
This class is a 2 hour block on Wednesdays with the first hour being their required technique training and the second hour being their choreography based class.
